What is it?
After the SEND reforms in 2014, a new inspection process was developed. In 2016 the CQC (Care Quality Commission) and Ofsted came together to hold local authorities and local health services to account.
The Children and Families Act 2014, introduced new responsibilities on the local education, health and social care services that provide for any children and young people with SEND. The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice has since been updated to reflect this.
Parent Carer views are a large part of the inspection. There is a pre recorded webinar which we encourage you to participate in, it will ask you to answer some questions and give you time to provide your own feedback. Please bare in mind that this inspection is not one of individual settings, nor can the inspectors take any action on individual cases. However they want to know how you feel the local authority and health services have identified, accessed and met the needs of your child and does this improve the outcomes of a child with SEND.
Throughout the week of the inspection SPCF sent parent carer reps to various meetings where the local authority and health services have given their views on how they have identified, assessed & met the needs of children and young people with SEND. They have also discussed how the provision, services and resources available have impacted and hopefully improved the outcomes of those children. We are yet to find out the result of this inspection, but when we do we will be sharing that report here. We hope that what ever the outcome, it leads to positive changes for our children and young people in our borough and their families.
Stockton Parent Carer Forum is grateful for the opportunity to be in those meetings and as a team we are able to reflect on how we can improve our service. The forum is run entirely by volunteers, we give up our own free time to ensure that your voice is heard, but we acknowledge that not enough people are reached by our service. If you would like to volunteer your time to ensure that Parent Carers are able to have their voice heard then please get in touch via our contact page.
